AHA! I tried looking for this before I posted mine, but couldn't remember the name. This, with some nice pop-ups - yes, I know, virtually impossible - would be just the absolute sex.

Awww hell yes.
To be honest, I'm slightly concerned that they won't release it. If they make it an Abarth I doubt I'd buy one, whereas an Alfa Spider is probably the sole candidate for a brand new car purchase for me.

It'd be such a waste not to release it as an Alfa. It'd be a bit like Jag deciding to put out the F-Type as as Land Rover, or something. (Okay, no, it wouldn't, but still. It's a great opportunity to put the wind back in Alfa's sails, and revive a historic and achingly cool nameplate, much as the F-Type was for Jaguar.)
I can't make any similar promises on the actual purchasing front, I'm afraid. Much as I love the idea of a new Spider, I'm a poor student, and as such lucky to be able to even own a car. It's the second hand market for me for the foreseeable future...
I do have some money floating around though, and I just made the rather exciting discovery that I'll be able to afford the insurance on a 106 GTi come renewal time, so I'm on the hunt right now. I'm just worried about the potential cost of having to set right any 'improvements' made by the former owners. I don't want lowered, uncomfortable suspension for one thing, and finding an example that hasn't had it done is proving difficult.

It is a rather pretty posterior.

I know, but I haven't got the utmost faith in Fiat Group management at the moment. They've done ok so far, but nothing's actually set about Alfa's future until they actually start releasing cars.
I've just come out of being a penniless student, although my Spit project endeavours to keep me that way. The cheaper end of the used market is my stomping ground, but for the Alfa Spider I'll try my hardest to make an exception.
I'd recommend a 106 GTi any day. Great looking things and buckets of fun to drive. My mate's had a few and they've all been excellent :) I'd recommend looking on the 106 forum actually. It's quite an active one, so you might find cars changing hands there that never even touch the classifieds.

This, this I like! Rear half reminds me of the F-type.
Might be too aggressive though.

I couldn't agree more on how good it looks!! I think you're right though. I think it's greatest downfall is that this look might too aggressive.
If it looks anything like this, I think I'd be in line for one if the price is right.

I like this 4C-inspired one:

Doesn't matter, they will make it ugly and faggy as per the formula: this car cannot be awesome for normal sized men. It will be under powered and undersized. Case closed.
